the only positive the R has over the RS is maybe if you want the ‘analogue’ tach. that’s literally it. otherwise they make the same hp/terks. the first year of the RS max torque was higher on the rpm which some journalist complained about and was amplified in places like reddit. hounddogracingteam • 2 yr. ago.
Even though both are triple engines, beyond the CC difference the Yam is still much more aggressive, and the seating position is upright and wide-barred (compared to the STR) which makes you feel much more imposing on the road. That does work to the 09's detriment though; The 09 wants you to ride like a knob.
Also contributing to the Street Triple R’s newfound agility is a redesigned frame constructed from three fewer parts. The new frame decreases the R’s rake by 0.5˚ (from 23.9˚ to 23.4˚) and adds 2.6 mm of trail (from 92.4 mm to 95mm). There’s also a more forward weight bias, from last year’s 49% front, 51% rear, to 2013’s 52% front Pros for StR: better suspension, Triumph build quality, refined, nearly perfect throttle and shift feel. Cons for StR: maybe the display, not as exciting, lower torque. Pros for XSR900: Yamaha reliability, cruise control, looks. Cons: it's a hooligan, much worse suspension, more expensive.
